Fair Collaboration: Request for Split Regulation Feature

Hi BeatStars team,

I’d like to propose an improvement to address a recurring issue within the platform. Currently, there’s no mechanism to prevent users from unfairly allocating split percentages (e.g., setting splits at 90/10 or 70/30 in their favor). This creates challenges for loopmakers and co-producers, as they often end up with disproportionately small percentages.

It would be great to implement a feature allowing creators to review and dispute unfair splits. A transparent system to regulate this would ensure fairer collaboration and discourage misuse. This adjustment would help build trust among users and maintain the integrity of the platform.

My vision for solving the issue:

1. Mutual Split Confirmation Both parties must agree and confirm the split percentages before finalizing a deal. The system would include a feature requiring explicit consent from both the beatmaker and the loopmaker.

2. Percentage Limits Set reasonable minimum and maximum limits for splits. For example, splits such as 50/50, 60/40, or 70/30 would be allowed, while anything outside these ranges would need additional justification and approval.

3. Request for Revision A feature that allows users to challenge unfair splits. This would notify the platform and pause the deal until the issue is resolved.

4. Guidelines for Fair Splits Introduce a reference table of recommended splits based on contributions, such as: • 50/50 for equal contributions. • 60/40 for primary creators. • 70/30 only with clear justification.

5. Automated Alerts for Irregular Splits The system should flag extreme splits (e.g., 90/10) and trigger a review process, requiring confirmation from both parties.

Thank you for considering this suggestion!

This approach reminds me of a similar issue with PayPal. They tend to side with buyers, even in cases where the beat has already been downloaded and used. They often reject disputes from sellers without fully considering their position.

This has been a long-standing issue that many beatmakers face, and it creates an imbalance where creators feel unprotected.

A similar problem arises here—if the other party ignores attempts to resolve splits, creators are left in a tough spot. I believe involving BeatStars as a neutral third party to regulate and mediate these issues would be a fair and effective solution for everyone involved.

    Hey Lee,

Thank you for the explanation! However, I see a potential issue with this approach. What if the other party ignores my attempts to contact them? Unfortunately, this happens quite often.

My suggestion is aimed at solving this problem by involving a neutral third party, like BeatStars, to regulate such matters. Instead of relying solely on me to reach out, it would be more efficient if BeatStars could act as a mediator to ensure the splits are properly adjusted and agreed upon.

I believe this could improve the collaboration experience for all users.

Looking forward to your thoughts on this!

Thank you for reaching out with your suggestion!

You’ll be pleased to know that a similar feature already exists on the Studio platform. We have an approval process in place for all collaboration invites. Whenever you’re added as a collaborator, you’ll receive a notification within the platform that allows you to approve or reject the collaboration. During this step, you can review the splits, and if they’re not set correctly, you’ll have the opportunity to contact the involved parties to make necessary adjustments.

We hope this clarifies things! If you have further questions about how this process works, don’t hesitate to reach out to our support team at support@beatstars.com—they’ll be happy to assist.

Thanks again for your feedback and support!
